In her first year at Unitec she was awarded the faculty prize - in her second year she majored in directing. She received further scholarships and prizes whilst at university.
As a student she made numerous short dramatic films and documentaries - a couple of which garnered awards and nominations at the AUSA Student Film Festivals. This work has also been screened on Triangle TV, the Sundance Channel and at the Wellington Fringe Festival.
During her final years at university, Abi worked at Juice TV - Sky Television's 24hr music TV channel - as a presentation director.
